Cognitive dissonance
Everyone prefer to have a harmony and consistent view of the world. Hence if they perform and action that is discrepant from their own customy views, it will create a feeling of discomfort and tension. Upon having this tension, they will have a drive to reudce this discomfort by reducing the inconsistency.

This human behaviour is known as cognitive dissonance.

Everyone knows why we are in the school studying. To be educated and learn stuff. Eventhough the ultimate goal might be different, for some to get into a good job and earn big money, or to be a knowledgable person. It is all to learn.

Nonetheless, some people was unable to act consistently and do not study consistently. Hence, there is a cognitive dissonance and they would want to reduce this feeling of discomfort.

People can reduce this tension in 3 ways
First is to change their behaviour so for this case they can choose to study hard and do well
Second. they can choose to change their cognition by saying that coming to school is not study or they will say that they do not have the interest to study or even doesn't want to study
Thirdly, they can choose add new cognition along the way by saying coming to school is not just abt study but to make friends and to join extra activities as well.

I was internally laughing when i heard someone saying that the professor should not expect everyone to learn consistently during the semeseter, they are not looking into those people who are working and are highly involve in external activitiesm its wrong for them to do so.
Isn't that amusing to see how people reason to justify their actions?

Oh, did i mention this dissonance reduction is unconscious?
Well, i guess i myself find alot of excuse on my part.
But its human nature to evaluate others.

Research methods!
Every Tuesday and Thursday is Research Methods class! but to me its more of a Relationship class. In order to teach the various research method, they have to give alot of examples to explain the methods. Since both the lecturer, Woods and Holmes are in the field of personality and interpersonal relationships. Most of the examples they given are about relationship between partners

Something like the excitement of a new relationship will died down after 18months. So in order to keep the relationship going we should regularly go for novel activities. (such as scuba diving! haha)
Perhaps that is why mimi told me must slow slow love. If do too much novel things too fast, next time all those things not novel liaoz..

Self esteem has a large role to play in alot of things i must say.
For a control group, both Low Self esteem (LSE) and High Self Esteem (HSE) people have the same amount of expected rejection from their parters.
But when there is a personal failure. LSE people assume that partner (will see them how they see themselves and ) will react to their personal failures with rejections and thus distance themselves.
Whereas for HSE people, this expected rejection will be lowered than the control as they will feel that the partner will be there for you.
(THus creating a FAN interaction!)
All in all this is a self-defeating prohecy. If you are LSE, you thought that ur partner will reject you so you distance yourself away; and becasue u distance yourself away, you became not close to ur partner thus ended up being rejected.

When there is no successful experience. Both LSE and HSE people will have the same social confidence. But when there is a successful experience. There will be a Fan interaction in which the HSE people will have much more social confidance where as the LSE people will feel worst. LSE will think what others think about them and will feel bad abt themselves.

There people who are equally good in public performance. The only thing that are affecting them is if they are shy or not. A 'pill' is given to participants before a performance and it was told to them that the pill will cause them to be anxious. The performance for both shy and non-shy people who have taken the pill are of same standard whereas those who have not take the pill, the shy people did worst.
(Terminative interactions!)
This shows that people who are shy will have more self talk, and the more self talk was made the more it could affect the performance. Whereas those who took the pill that "could cause anxiety", will attribute their anxiety to the pill and stop thinking about it. Hence, anxiety impede performance.

Couples who are either insecure or secure will act angrily to the same extend over small issues (watch what movies etc). However, upon conflicting in serious issues (plans in life) the 'true colour'will be shown. Insecure peple will act angrily compared to secure people ( FAN INTERACTION). Insecure people will anticipate rejections, hence will be very angry and will report their partner badly. Secure people will feel that the partner will give in to them hence will be much less angry. (and because they are much less angry, they can talk things out and things will go well compare to the insecure)

Therefore positive illusions can be quite important in real life. Be it to think positively about your partner or about yourself. ITs a cycle. You think you are (your partner is) good, we will react and behave in a positive way. Hence things will turn out positively and will make u feel good about youself (your partner).

With that! i made a brief summary on what FActorial Design is all about! yup..
Thats why i like going for psychology classes. We learn things that are useful in life.

I just got to write this
In one recent study, college students who wrote about a negative emotional event showed sizable improvement in working memory compared with students who wrote about a positive event and those in a control group who wrote about their daliy schedule. The expressive writing effect on working memory occurred only when students had fewer intrusive thoughts and avoidant thoughts. In other words, expressive writing appears to help you avoid distracting effects of emotional thoughts by 'getting them out of your system'. In the study, improvement in working memory was assoicated wiht higher GPA.

Hence, do be prepared to see me writing alot of negative emotional events! bwahaaha...
Coincidentally, there is one that happened today.

I've been a group loafer for the marketing project. And so i thought i was.
Seriously, saying that im a social loafer is just an excuse for the problem i have. It takes alot more to solve it, maybe more conditioning helps, i hope. Eitherway, i was ashame of how i behaved. Self serving bias tells me that i'm blaming on the external cause that is not only stable but global for how i behaved. Macroenvironment shows demographics, place and culture can affect the consumer's blackbox in terms of their buying behaviour.

See! who says marketing, psychology and blogging cannot be combined as one? Right now i'm using Chunking technique to encode so many information via elaboration and imagery. Hopefully, this information will be stored into my explicit memory and i can easily retrive for this information has already been in my schemas. And if i keep on doing this, long-term potentiation will occur as i strengthened my neurons'connection. Unless i have anterograde amnesia which maybe caused by the impaired of my hippocamus, i hope that this memory stays the way it is..Worst come to worst, if i have the tip of the tongue phenomenon, i'll try to think back this post for retrival cues.

Before i know it, i realised im talking to myself, perhaps this is a form of dissociative identiy disorder??
