It takes one to know one
I felt miserable for the thing I did yesterday. Miserable not because I regreted and definitly not because I wronged him. Just that it is not my nature to solve things this way and it was uneasy for me to do so.
And so, I am not ashame to share with everyone what i had written, and i hope YOU will never treat your group like this when you are doing the project:

"Dear Dr XX,

This is Tan Tengda from your HW210 class, C22 group blue-tec.

I am sad and regret to be the one informing you of our group problem regarding one of our group member, YY.

The rest of the group member felt morally obligated to bring this up to you for it is just irresponsible for us not to.

Our group dynamics may not be the as good as the others since we do not know each other before hand. However, most of us tried our best to put in the required effort for the project.

Yet, we felt that YY did not put in the necessary contributions for the project and feel that this problem should be addressed.

Firstly, during the start of the project while doing the information sourcing and literature review. It was evident that YY did not contribute any information. Initially, we felt that it was just the beginning and hence overlooked this issue.

Subsequently, during discussion. We felt that he was not following in our conversation much and was not really attentive to the ideas mentioned.
This was evident when he was assigned to edit chapter 1 (introduction- purpose) of our report as we were out of track. Despite it was just a short paragraph regarding our project's purpose, the ideas he edited were not what was discussed. Eventually had to be re edited.

Our group felt that this incident may be due to his poor understanding and usage of english language. Thus, attempted to assign him to do up some of the visuals we need for chapter 3. Unfortunately, this had not been done so as well.

During this period while working together, he did not display any initiative and was not proactive in our discussion. There was totally no insightful input from him other than occasional saying out some trival ideas we had already discussed before. And if I am not wrong, he is the only student who does not have any 'stars' from your class. ( teacher gives stars for student who activitly answers her questions) Such attitude towards education and doing project is seriously not acceptable.

The above cases can be attributed to his personality as well as incapability of working in groups. Indeed, as members from his group, we were more than willing to guide him along or even to cover up for him. Nevertheless, what hurts us most was when we found out that he lied to us about his absence from group meetings.

A message was received from YY saying that he was outside and was unable to attend to the meeting. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, we assumed he had personal matters to attend hence did not question him. Fortunately or unfortunately, he was spotted by follow group member, ZZ who arrived late due to the rain, in school's canteen.

We were totally hurt by his actions and were even wondering if the reasons his absence from previous meetings were even true.

As this is the first time we encounter such situation and it was really uneasy for us to bring this up to you. Hence, we really wanted some advise regarding this matter.

Once again, I really appreciate your advise regarding this trvial issue of ours and thank you for looking into this matter.

Thank you.

Regards,
Tan Tengda
CBE Yr 1"

-------------------------
I unexpectedly met Darmen at 12 noon today. My emotion wasnt that good due to this incident. He himself wasnt having a good day either. Nonetheless, he was willing to hear my side of the story.

"I used to be very self consious,"he begain to say,"Everytime people sees me not in a way i wanted, I would be very worried and try to change their perception of me. But later I came to realise that I cant be friends with everybody, there are bound to be enemies. There is no way you can totally change this. You did everything you can within your power to solve this, but this is something you have to do to put things right. Hence you should not be sorry for what you had done."

And this is really the words i want to hear. Someone to affirm my decisions. Not that i am swayed easily by anyone, but sometimes it is just the support that is needed to know that our method to fight for the greater good is the right one.

"Idea is the thing that shapes a person, not his culture or background. There is always a choice and no one can be forced to do anything."-- poorly adapted from darmen. Cant remember the exact phrasing.. hmm..

Edwin Cheng
For the past one year, edwin's blog has been my only and very last thing that keeps me connected to the world of the NSF in 36.

From time to time,I've depended on his blog to remind me of what is most important. Especially during the beginning of this year, when days seemed like years. That was the time when he was one of the few things that could give me the solance I needed most and kept me going.

Edwin Cheng and I have so much things in common, i knew it upon the first day knowing him. Hence, learning the things he had been doing for the past 1 year during my absence, never fails to make me feel as though i am still part of the team. As if he has been doing the things on my behalf. As if nothing much have changed.

I have to tendency of no letting go of stuff.
Because of that, i spent days trying to clear my cupboards of textbooks and worksheets dated back from my primary school days, because of that, it became part of the reason why i totally messed up my jc life..

I knew myself so well that prevented myself from doing something regarding army last year that i felt compelled to do but knew deep down that i will regret. Nonetheless, there are somethings that I just couldnt change, can i?

Edwin ar Edwin.... Do you think I did not have my fair share of suffering in the unit? Do you think i'm really siao that i really love army? Have you ever wonder why i ALWAYS tell you to "enjoy yourself and good luck" instead of using some other words?
Well, its really not as if i'm running sort of vocabulary and have to say 'enjoy yourself'

"Its a man's world, not because it should be but because we let them have it. Based on our weakness."
If you really want to enjoy yourself, NO ONE can make it otherwise. And you shouldn't let anyone do so.
There are people who complain, "In their mouth they say we are commander. By in actual fact we are treated like men. 3SGis juz a shit rank doing shit job." (hmm i wonder who)

We are as great as what we think about ourselves, its not up to others to decide for you.
If you think that army is a waste of your 2 yrs, you will be wasting your two years.

Hence, i really hope that you have gained valuable experience during your stay in 36. Just as I had a long time ago.

And once again.
Take care, good luck and enjoy yourself.

One last time
When everyone was all excited about the ministerial forum (which is happening right now) , queueing up at the enterance for security checks and stuff, I had an agenda of my own.

The army people came down to ntu today for operation. And i knew that today will be the last time to have the chance to see familar faces from the team that is coming. I just had to go down to meet them.

Thing with everyone (i hope) is that whenever they leave an organisation, it feels as if time has stopped as their memory of the place remains as it was, no matter how long time has passed. And since everything has always been smooth going for me, i will hope that nothing changes.

True enough, I knew the entire team that came down today with the addition of the new comers who were there learning how things are done. It feels as if nothing has changed since the last time i left. I rmb the last time i had my duty was with george, benn and alex at nanyang poly a yr ago. Now is george benn and gu... Because of that, I was so close in telling benn (my understudy) what to do, despite the fact that he has been thru more operations than me by now.

What made me so emotional actually was that George and gu, to me, represent 2 people that i will no longer be meeting in my life. One of them made me cried (after a period of 10 yrs) and the other was the one who seen me cried and i cried onto.

How my understudy feels with me around, I believe, is exactly the same way how i feel when my upper study was with me. And i dont blame him, never did.

It made my day to see everyone still doing fine. I'm delighted to be able to see them again one last time, before everyone leaves, and everything changes. Hence, given a chance i will not want to meet them again anymore....
To me they will be ghosts, to them i'm just a passing wind....

Anyway, before i really forget, i met my grand understudy, his name is tan jian shin (think its spelled liddat). A regular! lets hope he knows what he is doing and will enjoy himself.

Physics quiz tml! wish me luck!

Sing Sang Sung
Wanted to post this up last week actually, but the guilt followed closely behind compelled me not to do so.

Nonetheless, Nothing, beats singing your heart out for 7 solid hours! 12pm to 7pm straight!

It started off with 6 of us namely, joel, kaiyang, chenwei, weijie mag and me. For the first 1 hr or so, we literatlly fought for the mic as we knew that there will be more coming. Soon came teckwu and sinyee. Then was tianyong, estelle and lastly harmy.

Imagine jumping round the room for almost every song.

phew...Kanza outing

To think that was all of it,

try going for another session 7 hrs within a span of 2 days. This time from 8pm to 3am!

Yes, that was what Elaine, choonyan, kaijie and I did last thursday. Because it was ladies' night, the hefty cover charge was waived, and they were so happy bout it. Look who's the auntie now?

I started of by singing jolin's wu niang, up up song, pirates, shou ai ni..etc..

Bad start really, sang so much jolin's song until my tone cannot come down when i start singing songs by male singers... Tried a couple of my zhao pai songs like qi li xiang, but still sounded funny.

To think elaine started selecting SHE's song. That was when i really suffered internal injuries when i tried to challage SHE's HOW.

At times like this, Sun yanzi save the day! haha Feeling the strain, from 1am onwards i started sing all her songs..

Choon yan and kaijie were so cool! they could sing all jj's songs. Best of all, choonyan made brownies for us to eat as well! Maybe i can make some pan cakes during our next session.

Anyway, we were shooo away by the stuff at 3am. And we had to loiter around the streets of orchard waiting for the first train. We came across some disgustingly disgusting people. Fortunately the girls were there to protect us, else i think kj and i would be preyed upon....

OH! we took neoprints with special guest jiahui before the session. Think that the last time (and first time) i took neoprint was during my first 3 months in jc... which was like ... 4 yrs ago..!?

--------------------------------------

Got into a quarrel with jb today. And we were so close in making it irreversible.
Actually i really thought that it was already irreversible when i stormed off angrily. Im glad that he suddenly appeared behind me after i left. And within a few mins, everything seems like how it is everyday...

Life in the university can be truly exciting,
Eventhough i knew deep down that such a life is never meant to be mine
I've always been straining myself to take on everything

I am never anything ordinary
Nonetheless, I am still human.
There are some things that are never meant to be mine.

There are many who have already been trumbled over by the stempede commonly known as Study.
Looking at their disheartenment,
I unconsciously bursted out a sinister laughter,
as if i have already triumph.

Who are not competitive in nature?

Nevertheless, they are not who i'm fighting with
they are not qualified nor they have the capability.

For those who are qualified,
let me see what you have got...
My power is based on the starlight, yet it is exactly the same thing im going against...

(ps. those who know me well will know writing such post is just to make me feel better)
------------------------

As of today, i've offically promoted Nicolas from status FAN to status AIRCON!
*clap clap clap!!
For the first time after i known him, he contacted me at the right time!!

我是我 i am myself

Never listen to the results of the fortune teller

Never ask the horoscope of others

Never let anyone to bother me

My happiness I know it myself

Fell in love with this song the first time i heard it few yrs ago. Love this song is because of its lyrics. It is just so my style.

Even though at times, i might joke abt how fate is sealed. I always and firmly believe that our destiny is controlled by ourselves.

(this leads me to the story of Luinshision which im planning to write very soon)

That goes the same for horoscope. We dont need a piece of readings from the newspaper to know what to expect for today, or to see how are we supposed to behave or how we are compatitble with others....

Nonetheless, Alice teo once told me that there are basis on such horoscope things. That made me wonder at times...

Looking at my friends list. I realised that there are quite alot of people i dont feel comfortable with who are born during feb to april...

Where as im very close with people who are born during june, july, august, november and december...

-------------------------------------------------

Talking about coincidence,

I just realised a few today.

I've got to know a friend from my orientation group. His name is Weijie. And those who knew my friend wee keat (whom i always mention), whose name in chinese is also weijie.

Both just so happen to have the same birthday, August 26th. Well... will be busy running half marathon then. Unless he invited me out personally for something. I will NOT be bothered to sent him any greetings... ...

Jieying and Guiling shared the same birthday as well. Nonetheless, these two girls are worlds apart.

During the paddles at marina bay today, i got to know a lady named, Edwina Cheng... and i notice some similarities between her and my number one fan,EDWIN CHENG. Especially with the spectacles and stuff....even the tone of their voices... oh my...Are they biologically related???

If i had my phone with me, i would have taken a picture of her!!!

house warming x happy mother's day
The long awaited hall 6 house warming party has finally come!
jia cai couldn't make it due to some viral stuff which is affecting his entire family, lets hope nothing happens after 28 days...

We played table tennis and i got aquainted with another ntu yr 1 guy. Exchanged phone numbers, hopefully we will be meeting up to play again next week.

Spider man was the other highlight for the day.
I find some parts too fast. In neuroscience perceptive, the screening of the show was too fast for the information to travel from my eyes to my receptors neurons, across the synapse along the pns up to my cns which is my brain to access the information.

The director is sam. I found him amazing to climb up the entertainment ladder from being the director/producer of serial to a movie director. I loved his shows 10 yrs ago... Together with him is his brother who played a funny 2-3 mins role in the movie. Not to forget his friend, bruce campbell, who appeared in the show as well.

Got home at 6 to celebrate mother's day. Though the cake was bought my mother actually...Tot that we would be singing the 'happy mother's day'song as we did last yr, but mother insisted to sing the '世上只有妈妈好’ song and ' 天下的妈妈都是一样地’song...

Just to add on, woke up with a strange feeling of chest being very tight. I'm not surprise if i'll be like those popular cases when people died in their sleep. Perhaps its a reminder to start exercise more...

Starlight
Imagine this scene:

A group of friends sitting together, reciting chinese poems along the river at night.

You think it is a typical scene that can only be found in chinese movie depicting ancient china?

Well, think again. Cos that was precisely what we did at Singapore River just now!

Actually it was only 4 of us as we thought that yongcheng was working. Just so happened that we bumped into him while at orchard.
This is the very very first time all 5 of us gathered and took photos.

All 5 of us took chinese culture and literature during Sec 1-4 (not to mention that jb, eugchua and yc subsequently dropped out from it during sec 4), that explained the urge of us reciting poems which were deeply rooted within us, at this beautiful night scene.

Lets just hear me hao nian of what was recited shall we?

To name afew... cos there are really alot. We even did some interpretation on these poems....
Actually interpretation is just me and jiacai lah..

Its quite amazing that it has already been 5 years since we left secondary school, yet we could sit down and just talk about it as if it was not long ago.

How we got 5 different maths teachers during sec 3 and we were taught set and subset 5 times.
How we drove our poor ms tan who was already in clutches mad
How baoxin goes around eating other people's homework (literaly)
How we enjoyed throwing bags and shoes and homeworks down from our window.
How a teacher of ours tattooed her 'front'' with butterfly and "back"with flower.
How notorious our class was eventhough more than 3/4 of our students are student leaders.

The experience was fulfilling. It reminded me of the proud, arrogant, stubborn, witty and power hunger (ambitious)self i used to be.

On the contrary, my two years in jc seemed to be blank. Nothing to be really proud of.

'there is a starlight within everyone of us, as long as you do not give up, the starlight will always be there for you'
